SEC Postpones Games

The Southeastern Conference said Thursday it has postponed its game schedule for the weekend.
The announcement means the University of Arkansas will not play Saturday at Reynolds Stadium as previously announced.

On Wednesday, the Southeastern Conference said all conference athletic events would be played as scheduled, including football games on Saturday, Sept. 15.

The Sun Belt Conference, meanwhile, had yet to say whether it would play its games, as it said it would on Wednesday.

Officials at Arkansas State University, an SBC member, on Thursday were awaiting word about whether its teams would play. The university said Wednesday its football game scheduled for Saturday in Jonesboro would continue.

The PGA, Major League Baseball and the National Football League had previously said they would not play games this weekend after terrorist attacks Tuesday in New York and Washington, D.C.

In a brief statement, the SEC said: "The Conference continues to believe this country must begin the healing process following the horrendous events of this past week and will evaluate all future schedules at an appropriate time.

"The Southeastern Conference reaffirms its commitment of $1,000,000 to the funds that will assist the victims of this event."
