Christmas Ornament Countdown: 6 Days Til Christmas

So today's ornament is from Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream factory in 2008.  We only had 3 kids then and they all really enjoyed the tour-especially the scoop of ice cream at the end.  I might just need some Ben and Jerry's ice cream right now.  Here is the post for that day.

Helicopter Time with Dad!
  • So I was a bit feverish again last night and forgot a few things in my blog (yes, low fever again, sore throat but didn't feel bad).  Robby sent me a box of pears from Harry and David for my Christmas.  Seriously, they are the best pears ever-the juice just drips down your arm.  We made everyone try some-Campbell and Anderson weren't too pleased with them and barely choked them down.  Robby even tried a bite-but didn't ask for another piece.  I am sure that Robby was silently gagging as well-the things you do for your kids.
  • Also at supper last night, we were having a chickeny pasta dish.  It was basically glorified mac and cheese with some chicken in it so it was required that everyone ate all that was in their bowl.  Don't feel sorry for them it was like 5 bites.  Campbell gagged and coughed with every bite.  I could hardly keep from gagging myself-dinner at our house is always so exciting!
  • Back to today, Graham was the first one up after 7:30.  He was trying to tell the others that it was already seven and they could get up.  Finally, Reagan told him "I sleep until 8."  That's my girl!
  • Robby was off today and took Graham to school and then ran for his yearly checkup.  He passed!  Meanwhile, we had breakfast here and started school.  Last night, I had bragged to Robby that Anderson was doing really well in his phonics-able to independently work on it with little distraction.  Ha!  I sure ate my words today-that child was so distracted that he couldn't even keep his feet under his desk.
  • Soon Robby was back and we were nearly finished with school (this is the week before our winter break).  Anderson did read some of his reading book to Robby and did a great job.  Then Robby gave me another lesson on how to work our computer/tv in the school room.  And that is when it happened-Anderson saw The Price is Right on the tv.  He was beside himself to think that we had that show on our tv.  He apparently thought it was only at Grandpa's house.  Like he was so crazy about it that I told him I would look for reruns on netflix or maybe he should think of having a Price is Right birthday party next year.
  • Before too long, I put Keaton down for her morning nap which was a big mistake because she never went to sleep for Robby this afternoon.  Campbell helped me organize some papers, restock toilet paper in all of the bathrooms and fold laundry while Reagan and Anderson finished their game show.
  • We mostly had fruit for lunch and then after playing for awhile, I snuck out to go to the book sale in Maumelle.  I think that Thursday is the last day so the part where you can fill a box for 25 bucks was pretty picked over and mostly big kid stuff but I did find a few little things.  Then fought the traffic and all of the crazy people at the grocery store to buy stuff for Campbell's birthday party.  Seriously, the store was insane-by the time I left I was wondering how much online grocery store shopping I could really do.
  • I then picked up Graham from Grannymom's house.  He was overjoyed and simply beside himself to see me.  Ha!  After Grannymom's helped by bribing him with some gum then he was pretty happy to go home with me.  By the time we made it home, he was perfectly happy and made his way upstairs to play with everyone else.
  • I unloaded the groceries and made supper while the others played.  Then we ate, the kids played legos, musical chairs (I was the radio), put on pajamas, did our Christmas countdown stuff and finally played and played with the helicopter.  It was lots of fun until the copter crashed on poor Campbell and wrapped around her hair.  She quickly calmed when she was offered the next turn of flying it.
  • Then it was bedtime for everyone-well, except for us.  We made a yummy recipe and are about to try it!

Christmas Ornament Countdown: 7 Days til Christmas

Today is another blast from the past ornament-our 2009 trip to Philadelphia.  We did make quite a few stops on that trip.  We really enjoyed our stop in Philadelphia and it is one of that places that we plan to revisit.  Here is a link to that post.

More Decorating!
  • This morning the kids slept and slept and slept and then we had to scurry around to get everyone ready for the day.  Robby ended up taking Graham to school while I dropped everyone else off at Nonna and Pops' house.
  • Keaton had a banana before we left but didn't want any pancakes at Nonna's house.  Anderson and Campbell had breakfast in the car and Graham did too on his way.  He had hopes that his Christmas party was today but it is on Thursday so he will just have to wait.
  • The kids at Nonna's house had a big day playing my old game of Bed Bugs, coloring and watching a few movies.  When Graham and I showed back up we had lunch and then they iced and decorated brownies.  Reagan had everyone a hide and seek game set up that we played a few times and then it was time to head home.
  • We finished what was left of school before putting the little girls to bed.  Afternoon school is always pretty rough and it sure was for Graham.  But after a few minutes of fussing upstairs, he came down a perfect little child and stayed that way most of the afternoon.
  • After school, Campbell and Keaton had a nap while the rest of us sat down and read for 20 minutes.  We all silently read our own books-Graham looked at pictures, Anderson did some reading and lots of staring off into space, Reagan read 3 chapters of the first Magic Treehouse book while I was reading my Pioneer Woman book.
  • They all then had a snack and watched a short movie while I did a bit of cleaning.  Before long it was time of everyone to wake up-I offered for them to go outside but they just wanted to play legos.  That was fine since I needed to put up a few loads of laundry upstairs.
  • Soon Robby was home.  And man, all day someone is constantly asking me when he is going to get home.  We had supper and everyone then had showers.  Afterwards, we finished working on our gingerbread houses and then watched a short movie upstairs before going to bed.
  • The new thing is that the kids can earn a star if they brush their teeth, potty and go to bed with complaining or fussing.  Everyone earned a star tonight-you have to earn 20 in a month to go and have doughnuts with Dad.  I am betting that I will have to stay at home with at least a few while the 20 star earners get to go!

Christmas Ornament Countdown: 8 Days til Christmas

This is an ornament from 2007-Mystic Seaport.  We were headed to catch a cruise but stopped in Mystic for some fudge and an ornament.  We didn't actually go into the reenactment part but still enjoyed the stop.  We have since returned (at night) but I would like to take the kids to see it sometime.  Here is a link to that day.

Ice Cream Truck Returns!
  • Graham was the first one up followed by Anderson.  They both joined me in bed while Robby went to get Campbell out of her bed.  After a bit, Campbell came downstairs to lay by me and Graham went upstairs to lay back in his bed with Robby.
  • Everyone had doughnuts before getting ready for church.  When Anderson came down the stairs, he saw Keaton and went on and on about her dress.  He even called Campbell down to come and see Keaton.  And I do believe that Keaton thought she was something else too because she was grinning ear to ear at all of the attention.
  • Graham was showing out a bit during Sunday school this morning, not bad enough to get into trouble.  Actually, I thought he was cute-just bad enough to be cute.  We did write numbers on cards and he did really well writing the numbers.  I was very surprised.
  • All of this talk about Anderson being Jon Skelley must be somewhat accurate.  Today when we were singing in big church, Anderson was singing his little heart out.  "Go tell it on the mountain!"  The child knew every word and sang his heart out.  Robby didn't know whether to shush him or sing along-but we couldn't do either, we were too busy giggling at him.
  • We had lunch at Grannymom and Grandpa's house.  The kids were fairly calm and the boys even went home with Cash for the afternoon.  Oh yes, the whole Dennie clan is feeling much better today.  Those of us at home did have a restful afternoon.
  • Keaton had a nap while Reagan, Campbell, Robby and I finished the Smurf movie.  We were a bit surprised that Campbell never went to sleep-Robby and I did.  Reagan then even started watching the movie again while playing games on Robby's ipad.  I think she relished being in charge-though she usually is!  Soon though it was time to meet the boys at church for the choir presentation.
  • Before it started, Campbell enjoyed watching the handbells.  Then everyone did really well in church-Graham falling asleep during the first song.  Campbell lasted until the middle when she fell asleep.  A few minutes after she fell asleep she started coughing-enough so that I thought I was going to need to use her shirt to catch...well, anyway.  Robby quickly ushered her out and she was fine after a drink of water.
  • Graham woke up during church and his only concern was if we were having ice cream truck.  He thought we only had it when they had choir and he knew he didn't have choir tonight.  So he was about to be upset-he calmed as I explained that any Sunday night we will have ice cream truck.
  • At home, Anderson was the only one that I could convince to have a hot dog-the others had eaten a bit before church.  Keaton did have some grapes until she saw Robby passing out popsicles and she made it known that is what she wanted.  So I just handed her one and she devoured every bit of it-and possibly even the stick...unless someone else took it away from her.

Christmas Ornament Countdown: 9 Days til Christmas

We always said that we would not take our kids to Disney World until they were much older and we also said that we would then only go once every 5 years.  We have definitely eaten those words and so enjoy all things Disney.  This time the whole Dennie crew came and our kids had so much fun being with their cousins.  Here is a link to one of our Disney days.
