Making our own snow...
out of flour?!?!
Highlights from today: (Click here for pictures)
  • Our bed is like a magnet to all of the kids in the morning.  Keaton had eaten before everyone else woke up so she was still laying in our bed.  As you can tell by the picture, there isn't much room for us when they all come downstairs.
  • Reagan saw me working on my list this morning and quickly started making her own: play upstairs, play with the pillows, color, snack, watch a movie, play outside, lunch, read a book...and she completely every last thing on her list.  (I couldn't be prouder).  But while she was working so hard on her list, I was wondering aimlessly around the house because her list was written on my list and without it I didn't know what to do.  Maybe I don't need a list since I even found time to snooze on the couch with Keaton (didn't last too long because a Candyland game turned into WWIII at my feet).
  • The big 4 all were downstairs at one point today and colored in the schoolroom.  They colored and colored while I was upstairs working on laundry.  After 45 minutes, I came back downstairs and looked in and they had cleaned up the crayons and markers (miracle) and were all sitting in their chairs lined up watching a movie.  I then snuck back upstairs to finish my job.
  • At lunch, I read a story about a snow plow.  The kids couldn't understand why the blade had a point.  So I used chips and raisins (it was lunch) to demonstrate how the snow was pushed to the side when the plow had a point on the front instead of just pushing the snow if the blade was flat.  Anyway, the boys were so excited to see this that they ran to get their cars and asked to play with my raisins and "chip" snowplow.
  • And then I lost my mind.  It looked so pitiful them all sitting in the floor watching someone push raisins that I thought they needed snow.  I got my cafeteria tray and loaded it down with flour for them to play in.  They loved every minute of it but it wasn't my brightest moment.  What a mess.  They played until they became bored and started making a really big mess (about 30 minutes-so pretty good).  Then I had to dust everyone off, sweep the floor, sweep it again and then vacuum it.  I thought I had it fairly clean until I saw the sun shining on it later in the day and there is a floury film all over the floor.
  • Campbell and Keaton took their afternoon naps and the others played and then started a movie when the neighbor girl knocked.  They got dressed to go outside and when they were putting on their shoes, I made it very clear that we were not going to have a snack today (neighbor girl always asks for a snack-everytime).  That was the first thing that Graham told her when they walked outside.  I do think that it is funny that she always knocks and asks for Reagan to come out and play.  And not only does Reagan go but Anderson and Graham as well-it is a boxed set.
  • I tried to keep Campbell asleep as long as I could so she would stay inside and miss the outside time but she woke up and when I told her they were outside, she beelined down the stairs and started to work on her shoes.  I bundled her up (she still has her horrible cough) and sent her outside.  Before too long, the other 3 were all coming in and I asked where Campbell was and Reagan said she was coming and that Campbell had wanted to come in.  When Campbell walked in the door, she said "cold"-it must have been cold outside for her to want to come in.
  • By the time the 4 of them had warmed up, Robby was home and soon Grannymom and Grandpa were over.  We all had supper and hung out.  The kids busied themselves with looking at our Christmas albums of years past and it was quite nice going down memory lane with them.  Oh and yes, Reagan was able to have dessert at supper.  I didn't let her have any desserts/sweets during the day but Robby talked to her and she was allowed to have some cookies tonight.  Trust me though, that child won't throw/hide her food on the floor anymore (well, at least for a few days)
  • At bedtime, we pulled our Santa, put on the snoopy light, did airplane and went to bed.  Everyone seems pretty wide awake up there and Keaton is laying beside me-clean diaper, full tummy, just burped and starting to doze off.
